in order to promote autism awareness and research, The elastic five proudly supports the doug flutie, jr. foundation for autism by having venues donate a portion of the band's proceeds to the organization.
The doug flutie, jr. foundation for autism was established in 1998 by former nfl quarterback doug flutie and his wife, laurie, whose personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired their passion to help other families. autism is a neurological disorder that affects the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. it is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the u.s. and can cost a family $60,000 a year on average.

they understand the best organizations to fund and how to maximize those dollars.
they identify opportunities for partner organizations to work together to increase their collective impact.
they bring families together from all over to build a community of support.
annually, the flutie foundation distributes more than half a million dollars through its grant cycle and programs to organizations that provide access to services, support for a more active lifestyle, and opportunities for adult independence.
About autism spectrum disordeR
the elastic five strongly supports organized efforts to further autism research and awareness in order to promote the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by ASD (Autism spectrum disorder). Autism is a complex group of disorders that influences brain development and can cause difficulties in social interaction, Behavior, and verbal/nonverbal communication.
Autism affects people of all ages, but it originates in early brain development and symptoms may present themselves in children as young as 2-3 years of age. research has shown that root causes of autism are various and usually have to do with a combination of genetic and environmental factors. intellectual disabilities and Difficulties with Motor coordination, attention, and sleep are several symptoms that may occur in children with autism. some individuals on the autistic spectrum may also be highly proficient in visual skills, music, math, and art.
over the past 30-40 years, more advanced research and increased awareness of autism have helped to provide important information and options for those affected by ASD. However, it is still not enough!! It has become increasingly apparent that early intervention and behavioral therapy are critical to improving the development of those affected by autism. This cannot be accomplished without families, organizations, the medical community, and caring individuals all contributing to a cooperative effort in order to help raise funds and promote awareness and knowledge of ASD.
