Who are the Elastic Five?

Joe Olivier (lead vocalist/rhythm guitar)

With over a decade of live performances in the southern New England area under his belt, Joe has been writing, recording, and performing original and cover tunes as lead vocalist/guitarist for various bands and solo acts for years. Starting out as frontman for the rock cover band The Mighty Heroes, he later transitioned into the acoustic realm as one half of the Carl & Joe duo. In 2006, Joe released his debut solo album Television Voo Doo and Other Space Junk, an ear-opening smorgasbord influenced by pop culture and styles of folk, rock, rap, and alternative rock. The album still sells online through I-Tunes and Amazon. Joe cites his experience as a college radio deejay as truly broadening his horizons. He credits 60's & 70's classic rock, early MTV, college radio, and the "Seattle Invasion" grunge movement as major influences for his musical style.

Ryan Crowley (bassist/vocalist)

Ryan is a self taught musician and singer who has been involved in original and cover projects for years. Starting with guitar at 15, he has dabbled with trumpet, piano, drums, harmonica, ukelele, and the ocarina. His has found a "home" on the bass and enjoys learning a variety of bass lines ranging from the simple to the complex and challenging. He has been in bands around Boston for over a decade and has performed all over New England, including opening for the U2 tribute band The Joshua Tree. Ryan's favorite musical influences include Talking Heads and Cake.

Jeff Posner (drummer/percussionist)

The first time Jeff saw a live drummer perform, he fell immediately in love with the instrument. It took a while to convince his parents, but by 8 years old he had his first drum set and lessons. In the 30+ years since, he has been fortunate to study with several local teachers, most recently with Berkeley instructor Dave DiCenso. Jeff had his first paying gigs by age 12, and by 18 he was regularly playing shows with his alt-rock band Porcelain. Over the years, he's had the opportunity to play at venues from New York to Maine, primarily performing at various Boston clubs including The Paradise, Oberon, and The Middle East. Jeff's biggest drumming influences are John Bonham, David Garibaldi, Matt Cameron, and Ringo Starr.

Scott Tooker (keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist)

Scott started studying classical piano at the age of 5 at the Franklin School of Performing Arts, and later at the Community Music Center in Boston. He is well-versed in baroque, ragtime, and popular music on the keyboard. Scott participated in a number of choral and vocal groups in college, and it was around this time he began studying guitar as well. As part of the Elastic Five and other acts, Scott has performed at a variety of venues in and around the Boston & Providence areas including the House of Blues in Boston and the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. His major musical influences include a variety of classical composers, Scott Joplin and the ragtime genre, Billy Joel, John Lord, Paul Simon, John Sebastian, Buddy Holly, the Beatles, and the Everly Brothers.

Mike Pohas (drummer)

Mike is a second drummer and another valued member involved with the Elastic Five. Raised on Ringo, Mike has played drums all his life. He's performed at weddings and clubs throughout New England over the years in bands like Backtrack, Escapade and the Class of '66. The skill and joy that comes from Mike's playing and singing shows why he is dedicated to this era of music. His voice can cover a broad range of musical styles. Additionally, Mike is an avid record collector. His main influences are Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, and the Ventures.
