The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism was established in 1998 by former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired their passion to help other families. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. It is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the u.s. and can cost a family $60,000 a year on average.

The Elastic Five strongly supports organized efforts to further autism research and awareness in order to promote the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Autism is a complex group of disorders that influences brain development and can cause difficulties in social interaction, behavior, and verbal/nonverbal communication.
